There are Two Types of People

There are two types of people in this world:

  1. horse-people (aka people who love horses) and,

  2. non-horse-people (aka people who haven’t discovered they are horse-people yet).

Horse-people are nuts (or so I've been told...) and admittedly, we are. After all, in what other sport can your teammate decide to work against you at any given moment and spook at the sight of a leaf or any other host of imaginary threats while you are sitting 5 feet up in the air and travelling at a good clip?

Then again, we do get the surreal and infinitely rewarding experience of communicating wordlessly with the slight twitch of a finger or minuscule shift in body weight. Horses are, in a word, authentic and they force you to be authentic too.

I think legendary horse trainer Buck Brannaman says it best:

The horse is a great equalizer, he doesn’t care how good looking you are, or how rich you are or how powerful you are— he takes you for how you make him feel.
— Buck Brannaman

Horse-people, you are my tribe.

Non-horse people, thank-you for listening to our stories, nodding politely at the appropriate moments and generally, for putting up with us :)
