No Stirrup November
It’s here! No Stirrup November means exactly that - no stirrups… all...month...long!
As much as it will be difficult, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue to improve my balance and position. My biggest challenge this year has been to find my canter-seat. I’ve come a long way but still have a loooong way to go. At the beginning of this season, my coach put it best when she very precisely described my canter seat as follows:
“You look like a monkey humping a horse.”
(I prefer blunt feedback so she hit the nail on the head with this one!!)
Since then, I’ve been working on my two-point position and (when not in two-point) my coach reminds me often of Walter Zettle’s famous quote, “Think light - imagine that you are going to heaven, and take him with you.”
I’ve been thinking about No Stirrup November and wondering whether it might be fun to create some other challenges throughout the year…what about a ‘No Bit December’ or a ‘No Reins January’!? I may be getting a bit ahead of myself but I’m imagining lots of fun challenges ahead....
For now, I’ll stick to this month’s challenge - are you participating?
